The Beginning
Back in 2010, my husband Eric and I got married in Brazil.
Prior to our wedding, we set up a website so friends and family could stay involved since they wouldn’t be attending the wedding. Instead of requesting gifts, we requested experiences.
During our honeymoon, we maintained a blog so everyone could follow the experiences they gifted to us. It was perfect for us. In hindsight, I wouldn’t do anything differently (except maybe exchange money prior to leaving the states, but that’s another story).
Blogging was kind of fun, so after we returned from our wedding/honeymoon, I continued to write. It didn’t make sense to continue to blog on our wedding website, so I launched Sporting the Small Stuff in 2011.
The Name
I was five feet tall (still am) with a small frame blogging about running, martial arts, skydiving, obstacle course mud runs, etc. The title Sporting the Small Stuff seemed so fitting and I continued writing from 2011 – 2013.
Then in 2013, I got pregnant. I chronicled my first trimester, but between working full-time, grad school, community involvement, and researching everything baby-related, I let writing fall by the wayside.
The First Redesign
In 2016, I completely redesigned the website for two reasons. 1) This website tends to be my testing ground for web design sometimes and 2) I had just experienced a miscarriage and thought I would be compelled to write more often.
As it turned out, I did write, but not on the blog. More time went by and I accumulated quite a few articles that now sit on my computer waiting to be posted (and they will be).
The New Journey
Then, about two months ago, I started a journey toward a more minimalist lifestyle. I started decluttering, restructuring our schedules for a less hurried lifestyle, and making sure I paid more attention to my family (I mean, really paid attention).
I began chronicling this journey and decided to resurrect the blog. I no longer liked my 2-year-old website design, so I redesigned the website again. I considered changing the name now that it’s less about me and more about parenting, intentional living, and minimalism, but Sporting the Small Stuff still somehow seemed fitting in a “I now have two kids under age five” and “don’t sweat the small stuff” sort of way.
So, the name stands for now and this new journey is just beginning.
